VPN Unlimited Review 2019 – What You Need to Know

VPN Unlimited is a New York-based company that offers top-notch encryption protocols and decent speed for a reasonable price. Here’s a full review.

VPN Unlimited is a VPN service located in New York. The company that stands behind it is KeepSolid Inc. They offer a variety of products to their clients, including Roadmap Planner, KeepSolid Sign, Business VPN, Network Tools, Private Browser and VPN Lite.

The company says it provides high-speed service that offers unlimited access to restricted websites.

Given the fact that the company is located in the United States, which is a member of the “5 Eyes” alliance—an international intelligence-sharing agreement between a handful of governments—the app may not provide the ideal level of safety to users as compared to alternatives.

VPN Unlimited has over 400 servers in 70 locations around the world. Users can select one of the following servers within the app:

  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • United States
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Austria
  • Belarus
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Denmark
  • Germany
  • Latvia
  • Poland
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Moldova
  • Italy
  • Isle of Man
  • United Kingdom
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Turkey
  • Vietnam

The company even allows its clients to suggest a new server location on the website.

For an additional $18.33 per month, you can get your own server, while for $12.50 a month, the company offers you a dedicated IP address.

Android and Windows VPN Unlimited apps are equipped with the OpenVPN protocol, as well as AES 128-bit and AES 256-bit encryption. Mac and iOS applications, on the other hand, use IPSec IKEv2 protocol with AES 128-bit encryption.

256-bit encryption is used by governments and is considered practically impenetrable by hacker attacks.

The app will use the optimal protocol for your network, but you can change that anytime in the settings section.

Kill Switch

A kill switch is one of the most important security features of every VPN app. It is designed to disconnect your device from the internet if the connection to the server for some reason gets terminated. This is the best way to avoid IP address leaks and stay protected all the time.

Unfortunately, VPN Unlimited’s kill switch is only available for Android, Windows and Mac OS apps. It can be enabled in the settings section.

Until recently, the company used a feature called On-Demand, which was designed to launch the app when a certain website is accessed. However, this feature was faulty and the project was abandoned and replaced by the kill switch.

P2P Sharing

VPN Unlimited does not forbid torrenting, but it is only available on the list of servers marked with a torrenting designation.

The service also allows Netflix, which is an excellent solution for people outside of the U.S. who want to access content available only for the users located in the States.

VPN Unlimited connection has shown reliable. However, in some cases, it was established after a second try.

If you opt for the OpenVPN protocol, you will probably experience a slower connection. If you connect to the nearest server, the latency will be minimal. It will start increasing for the servers in distant locations.

Download speed on some servers is more than acceptable (60Mbps), while others were pretty much unusable (10Mbps). Therefore, the location is the number one factor that dictates the app’s performance. If possible, always opt for the nearest, less populated server.

VNP Unlimited has apps available for following operating systems, devices and browsers:

  • Windows
  • Android
  • Mac
  • iOS
  • Linux
  • Windows phone
  • Chrome
  • Firefox

A standard subscription includes a simultaneous connection to five different devices, while for additional payment you can connect 10 gadgets. This makes VPN Unlimited convenient for families and businesses.

Additionally, VPN for teams is also available. It includes remote support and, depending on the plan, up to 20 profiles and 100 simultaneous connections.

Customer Support

In the support section of the VPN Unlimited website, clients can find a contact form and email address to reach KeepSolid’s support desk.

Within the same section, you can also access manuals that can help you install and use the app, as well as FAQs.

The questions are arranged into categories including general, work with the application, technical questions, account and payment, and troubleshooting. Also, you can enter the keywords into a search bar for quick results.

If you want to resolve an issue in real-time, live chat is available as well.

Security and Privacy

VPN Unlimited does store some data including your name, email address, country, username and password, forum posts and emails sent to the support desk. Also, some data may be collected automatically such as users’ IP address, device and browser type, version of the software and updates, your time zone and the app’s activation date.

The Privacy Policy tab on VPN Unlimited’s website links straight to KeepSolid’s privacy policy, which contains more details about data use.

Given the fact that the company is located in the U.S., users’ data may be handed over to the government if required. However, despite this, the company still claims that they keep zero logs.

VPN Unlimited offers four different subscription plans:

  • One-month plan for $9.99
  • One-year plan for $5 a month (you get three months for free)
  • Three-year plan for $2.78
  • Lifetime subscription for $199.99

Within this price, users get a simultaneous connection to five devices, while for additional payment, you can get 10 connections.

A dedicated server and IP address can also be included in a subscription plan.

All plans include 24/7 email and live chat support, 5-10 connections, unlimited traffic and speed, encryption protocols (as mentioned above), access to all servers including the ones for torrenting, with zero logs.

Users’ Reviews

Most of the VPN Unlimited users claim that they do not have speed issues and that apps are easy to use. However, there could be more servers in popular locations.

Another good part is a kill switch and torrenting servers. Also, users have stated that they find Netflix and Hulu streaming service one of the leading factors why they opt for VPN Unlimited.

However, if you want to add or remove a device, you will have to wait for 24 hours to make another change.

When it comes to a lifetime subscription, some users had problems with the refund policy, even though customer support claimed that if they file a report within seven days, they will get their money back.

If you are looking for a VPN service that has more servers or a company that is located in a country that is not part of the 5 Eyes or 14 Eyes alliance, you may want to consider some of the alternative VPN service providers:

Even if you are a business owner or you want to purchase a product for your entire family, VPN Unlimited does offer these options. There are not many services that offer 10 or an unlimited number of connections, along with their package for teams—which is a plus to the service.

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Strong encryption protocols A small number of servers
Allows torrenting on selected servers Based in the United States
No logs policy Variable speeds
Money back guarantee
Has a kill switch
Allows up to 10 simultaneous connections per subscription for additional payment
Allows Netflix

VPN Unlimited offers top-notch encryption protocols and decent speed for a reasonable price. What makes them unique is the fact that you can purchase 10 additional connections and add them to your standard subscription plan. The service supports Netflix and allows torrenting.

However, the company is located in the United States which is a member of 5 Eyes alliance, and even if they claim that they keep zero logs about their client’s online traffic, they do store certain data.
